Jury finds man guilty of murder

A Lafayette jury found 23-year-old Taveon Leary guilty of second-degree murder in the March 2019 fatal shooting of 22-year-old Kendrick Flugence Jr. at a Louisiana Avenue apartment complex.

The verdict was read on the fifth day of trial after roughly two hours of closing arguments from the prosecution and defense, led by Lance Beal and Kristen Richardson, respectively.

Fifteenth Judicial District Court Judge Royale Colbert presided over the case.

“One shooter. Fourteen rounds. Three clicks," Beal said. "That’s what you need to remember.”
